International Academic Cooperation

Directorate for International Academic Cooperation

One of the strengths of Allameh Tabataba'i University (ATU), at national and regional levels, has been the extensive international academic collaborations with academicians from all around the world. Most international activities and mobilities in ATU begin and are conducted at the Directorate for International Academic Cooperation (DIAC).
Working under the university's vice-presidency for research, the Directorate (henceforth simply the DIAC) is actively trying to facilitate the incoming and outgoing mobilities for students and lecturers; organisation of events like conferences, workshops, and sessions; supporting students and lecturers to use international opportunities; inviting foreign lecturers to teach and lecture in ATU; and many other activities. Below, more information about the DIAC, its activities, and the International Team is provided.

History

Ever since its establishment in 1984, ATU has always included international collaborations and activities in its agenda. These activities were conducted for more than two decades under the Vice-Presidency for Research, by a single Officer in Charge of International Activities. It was in November 2012 when a new directorate was defined under the Research VP chart and about a dozen of specialised manpower was recruited to address the international needs of the university.
Since 2012, the DIAC is working in two offices: (1) the Office for Planning International Academic Collaborations, dealing with the planning and coordinating the activities; and (2) the Office for Developing International Academic Collaborations, dealing with the implementation phase of the international activities. The members working in the directorate for introduced at the end of the same page.

International MoUs and Agreements

The point of departure for many international activities and collaborations in ATU is the signature of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). Although not so much legally binding, MoUs are general documents to establish official partnerships. In many cases, a clause in an MoU results in a binding, specialised agreement on academic cooperation. The table below specifies the latest list of MoUs and Agreements signed with international institutes.
