International Academic Cooperation
One of the strengths of Allameh Tabataba'i University (ATU), at national and regional levels, has been the extensive international academic collaborations with academicians from all around the world. Most international activities and mobilities in ATU begin and are conducted at the Directorate for International Academic Cooperation (DIAC).
Working under the university's vice-presidency for research, the Directorate (henceforth simply the DIAC) is actively trying to facilitate the incoming and outgoing mobilities for students and lecturers; organisation of events like conferences, workshops, and sessions; supporting students and lecturers to use international opportunities; inviting foreign lecturers to teach and lecture in ATU; and many other activities. Below, more information about the DIAC, its activities, and the International Team is provided.
History
Ever since its establishment in 1984, ATU has always included international collaborations and activities in its agenda. These activities were conducted for more than two decades under the Vice-Presidency for Research, by a single Officer in Charge of International Activities. It was in November 2012 when a new directorate was defined under the Research VP chart and about a dozen of specialised manpower was recruited to address the international needs of the university.
Since 2012, the DIAC is working in two offices: (1) the Office for Planning International Academic Collaborations, dealing with the planning and coordinating the activities; and (2) the Office for Developing International Academic Collaborations, dealing with the implementation phase of the international activities. Main International Activities
International activities in ATU are not limited to "international cooperation" or "international relations" with non-Iranian higher-education institutes. The DIAC is also working to facilitate the exchange of students and lecturers for the purposes of participating in international programmes and events. The major international activities conducted in ATU under this directorate include the following:
- International Conferences and Seminars
- Convening conferences and seminars;
- Supporting our students to participate in international conferences held abroad;
- Supporting our faculty members to participate in international conferences held abroad;
- International Workshops
- Convening international specialised workshops;
- Supporting our students to participate in international workshops held abroad;
- Supporting our faculty members to participate in international workshops held abroad;
- Signing international MoUs and Agreements with international and local institutes and organisations aiming at further international activities;
- International Academic Visits
- Inviting and coordinating international lecturers and academic members to spend academic visits at ATU;
- Supporting our students to participate in international study visits;
- Supporting our faculty members to participate in international study visits;
- International Sabbaticals
- Inviting and coordinating international lecturers and academic members to spend sabbaticals and research at ATU;
- Supporting our students to participate in international sabbaticals in universities abroad;
- Supporting our faculty members to participate in international sabbaticals in universities abroad;
- Supporting students to participate in International Olympiads and Competitions
- Facilitating the Use of International Knowledge-Enhancement Courses (KEC)
- Supporting students to participate in international KECs in universities abroad;
- Supporting our faculty members to participate in international KECs in universities abroad;
- International Mobilities within the Framework of the European Commission's Key Action 107:
- Exchanging students with the universities abroad within the framework of the EC KA 107;
- Exchanging faculty members with the universities abroad within the framework of the EC KA 107;
- Coordinating with universities abroad to establish international joint or double / dual degree programmes in bachelor's, master's, and PhD levels;
- International Teachings:
- Supporting our faculty members to travel to and teach in universities abroad;
- Inviting and coordinating faculty members from foreign universities to teach in ATU;
- Inviting distinguished academic figures from foreign universities to speak in ATU;
- Coordinating and facilitating the participation of faculty members in international joint research projects
- Admitting the tuition-paying foreign students;

- Supporting the establishment of International Chairs in ATU departments;
- Membership in international organisations and associations;
- Corresponding and submitting facts and figures to Ranking Systems;
- Administering the contents of the university's English Website;
- Administering the contents of the 11 Faculties' English Websites.
