Reza Kalhor Clinches ATU’s First Gold at 17th National University Sports Olympiad

According to the Public Relations Office, as reported by the Directorate for International Academic Cooperation (DIAC), Reza Kalhor, a student-athlete from Allameh Tabataba'i University (ATU), secured the university delegation’s first gold medal in the men's 80 kg taekwondo event at the 17th National Cultural and Sports Olympiad for University Students.

The national taekwondo tournament brought together competitors from 66 universities across the country at the Hejab Sports Hall of Shahrood University of Technology, featuring contests in both Kyorugi (sparring) and Poomsae disciplines.

Competing in the 80 kg Kyorugi division on Monday, 24 August 2026, Kalhor delivered an impressive series of victories to triumph in the final and claim the top podium spot. The athlete had previously secured his berth in the national championships after advancing from the Region 1 qualifiers in early August.

The ATU taekwondo team was coached by Hossein Karimi and managed by Abolfazl Moradi, under the overall leadership of Sajjad Mohammadi, who heads the university's sports delegation. The 17th edition of the National Cultural and Sports Olympiad for male university students was held from 21 to 30 August 2026, hosted by Shahrood University of Technology.
