The Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, in collaboration with Allameh Tabataba’i University and the Cultural Advisor’s Office at the Iranian Embassy in Madrid, is holding the first Summer School in Iranian culture and civilisation in Spain. Entitled “Persia’s Cultural Heritage Throughout History: Symbols, Stories, and Encounters,” the Summer School is held from 24 to 26 June 2022.
ATU President delivered a message at the event’s opening ceremony, and Dr Seyed J. Faraji, Director of International Academic Cooperation, delivered a lecture on the history of urban development in Iran.
ATU President’s message is as follows.
In the name of Allah.
Greetings to all esteemed guests and participants!
The cultural and civilisational richness enjoyed by the two nations of Iran and Spain can provide the ground for increased participation and ties between these two civilisations. In the meantime, universities, as centres for the production of science and culture in societies, can provide the ground for better and more effective participation, cooperation, and interactions.
Allameh Tabataba’i University, as the major humanities and social science-oriented university in Iran and one wing of the current event, has a crucial mission in the sphere of civilisation. The Autónoma University of Madrid, as the event organiser, is also influential in this respect. The role of these universities in the existing interactions between the two nations should be such that they can weave common cultural points and thereby provide the ground for the expansion of interactions between civilisations. Owing to its social responsibility, Allameh Tabataba'i University always supports the programmes held in the cultural and social fields with Iranian-Islamic approaches.
The organisation of these summer schools in Iran and Spain would be highly effective in the ever-increasing mutual familiarity of the two civilisations. I am thrilled to observe the two universities’ joint initiative to convene a summer school in Iranian culture and civilisation in Spain, and I hope this joint programme will facilitate more partnerships in the future.
I would like to thank all the parties involved in organising the school. My special thanks are also due to Dr Fernando Comacho Padilla for coordinating the event. I should also appreciate the efforts made by the esteemed Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Spain and the esteemed Cultural Advisor at the Embassy.
Abdollah Motamedi
President of Allameh Tabataba'i University
