Session on Solidarity with Gaza People held at ATU

Report by the Directorate for International Academic Cooperation

Thanks to the efforts made by the Directorate for International Academic Cooperation and the Spanish Language Department at Allameh Tabataba'i University (ATU), ATU convened a session on "Solidarity with the People of Gaza: With Emphasis on the Role of Academics" and hosted Abssadors from Nicaragua, Bolivia, and Venezuela.

The session was attended by President, Vice-President for Research, Vice President  for Culture, Director of International Academic Cooperation, and several other officials from ATU, as well as their excellencies, esteemed Ambassadors and their delegations from the three above-mentioned countries.

In the beginning of the session, ATU President said: "The dominance and power of the Israeli media has failed to prevent the world's people from awakening and receiving the truth. Our relationship with the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking ambassadors has been growing in recent years. Today, the issue of Gaza is receiving intense attention in the international arena, and Israel's aggression against the people of Gaza and the genocide of this people is an event that has hurt the conscience of the world."

He continued: "Today, not only in the public space, but also in universities, academics are protesting, and academics are revising the memorandums and contracts they had with the Zionist regime and have suspended their communications in many countries."

ATU President stated: "For over 200 days, the people of Gaza have been subjected to the most brutal behaviour of a regime which has occupied Palestine, and today, genocide is clearly taking place in the region."

He stated, the protests in Europe, Asia and different countries show the weak role of international organizations which have failed to fulfill their responsibilities. The Islamic Republic of Iran has reacted appropriately to this issue from the beginning and condemned this genocide.

ATU President maintained, in Islamic teachings, there is an emphasis on defending the oppressed. According to Imam Ali (PBUH), the first Imam of the Shias, "Be an enemy to the oppressor and a friend and supporter to the oppressed."
