11th International Conference on Iranian Linguistics held at ATU

The 11th International Conference on Iranian Linguistics was held at the Faculty of Persian Literature and Foreign Languages, Allameh Tabataba'i University, bringing together professors, scholars, and researchers in linguistics.
The conference aimed to provide a platform for professors and students to present their latest research and exchange ideas in various fields related to language and linguistics. The event was attended by Dr Abdollah Motamedi, President of Allameh Tabataba'i University; Dr Gholamali Haddad Adel, President of the Academy of Persian Language and Literature; Dr Mohammad Dabir Moqaddam, Professor at the Department of Linguistics, Allameh Tabataba'i University; Dr Mohsen Habibi, Dean of the Faculty of Persian Literature and Foreign Languages; and Dr Golnaz Modarresi Ghavami, Scientific Secretary of the Conference.
In this conference, Dr Motamedi highlighted the importance of language and its role in various aspects of human life. He also mentioned the different theories on the relationships between language and thought, and emphasized the role of language in shaping human thought.
Dr Haddad Adel also congratulated the Department of Linguistics at ATU for their success in convening the Iranian Linguistics Conference for 33 years. He described ATU as a product of the Islamic Revolution and a leading centre for the humanities in Iran, with its Department of Linguistics serving as a hub for linguistic research in the country.
Dr Dabirmoqaddam, for his part, spoke about ATU's support for the conference and maintained it reflects the university's commitment to promoting scientific research. He added that the Department of Linguistics and the Centre for Teaching Persian to Speakers of Other Languages have provided the grounds for scholars and students from across the country to share their research findings in various branches of theoretical, applied, and historical linguistics.
Dr Modarresi Ghavami then provided a brief overview of the conference, noting that the first edition was held in 1990 with 16 presentations. Over the past 33 years, the conference has provided a platform for numerous scholars and researchers to present their research in theoretical linguistics, applied linguistics, historical linguistics, Iranian languages and dialects, and interdisciplinary studies.
At the end of the event, Dr Habibi stressed the importance of the Persian language as a key element in the Iranian identity and expressed his hope that the Faculty of Persian Literature and Foreign Languages would continue to promote the language at the global level.
The conference covered a wide range of topics, including phonetics and phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, discourse analysis and information structure, teaching Persian to speakers of other languages, old Iranian languages, Iranian dialects and languages, endangered languages, linguistic atlases, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, neurolinguistics, clinical linguistics, cognitive linguistics, philosophy of language, semiotics, typology, computational linguistics, historical and comparative linguistics, applied linguistics, forensic linguistics, biolinguistics, sign language, corpus linguistics, lexicography, translation, linguistics and literature, stylistics, writing systems, and terminology.
The conference was attended by a multitude of scholars and researchers from various universities and research centers in Iran and abroad.
