MoU signed with Termez State University
Directorate for International Academic Cooperation–
Considering the importance of developing educational, research, and technological cooperation between the universities of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Uzbekistan and with the aim of promoting academic and research cooperation in the fields of humanities and social sciences, Dr Abdollah Motamedi, President of Allameh Tabataba'i University (ATU), and Dr Toshkulov Abdukodir Khamidovich, Rector of Termez State University (Uzbekistan), signed a memorandum of understanding on academic cooperation.
Mobility of students, holding joint academic programs and courses, carrying out joint research projects, joint publications, mobility of professors and staff to participate in workshops and lectures and conduct joint research, and sharing library resources to facilitate professors' and students' access to library resources are among the objectives of the MoU.
At the beginning of this ceremony, Dr Motamedi referred to the relations and interactions between ATU and the universities in Uzbekistan and said: "Before this, there have been interactions between ATU and the universities of Uzbekistan, and we are happy to observe the relations are developing."
He then pointed to the capacities and facilities at ATU and said: "Allameh Tabataba'i University is prepared to establish a Persian Language Teaching Centre in one of Termez State University or other universities in Uzbekistan. ATU can also grant scholarships and online training courses to Uzbek students and admit Uzbek professors interested in completing their post-doctoral degrees in Iran."
Further, Dr Mehdi Elyasi, Iranian President's Deputy-President for Policy and Development, emphasizing the expansion of relations between ATU and Uzbek universities, suggested that an Uzbek Language Department be established at ATU.
The Rector of Termez State University then invited the ATU President to attend the university's 70th anniversary and said: "The two universities can cooperate closely in the areas of student mobility, holding academic webinars, and the field of Afghanistan."
Dr Davoud Hosseinpour, Vice-President for Research, also proposed the launch of bilateral partnerships between knowledge-based companies in the two countries, facilitating the joint publication of books and articles, and planning for the mobility of professors and students between the two universities.
The MoU will remain valid for a period of five years and can be extended upon the parties' agreement.
