Chancellor of the Nangarhar University of Afghanistan, Dr Khalil Ahmad Mahmoud Behsudwal, and a delegation from the university met with Dr Abdollah Motamedi, the president of Allameh Tabataba'i University (ATU), and discussed the possible grounds to enhance international academic cooperation and the mobility of researchers and students between the two universities.

At the outset of the session, Dr Motamedi presented a warm welcome to the Nangarhar University delegation and hoped the visit would foster greater ties between the two universities, leading to extensive areas of cooperation between the parties.

Dr Motamedi also highlighted ATU's facilities and capacities, as Iran's only specialized humanities university. He emphasized the historical and cultural ties between Iran and Afghanistan which have facilitated strong interactions and cooperation between the two nations.

Dr Jahangiri, the representative from the Deputy Ministery for International Affairs at the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, then stressed the importance of scientific diplomacy in fostering constructive relationships between nations. He highlighted the achievements of the Islamic Republic of Iran in various fields of science, despite the existing sanctions, and expressed the Ministry's interest in collaborating with Afghan universities in areas like water, nanotechnology, and mobility of students and faculty members.

The Chancellor of Nangarhar University then highlighted the institution's history as the second oldest university in Afghanistan established nearly 60 years ago. He also emphasized the university's mission of providing education at national and international levels, as well as addressing societal challenges through research. Nangarhar University Chancellor finally expressed his interest in expanding academic and research cooperation with ATU, particularly in the humanities and social sciences, and proposed the signature of an MoU to formalize the partnerships.

During the visit, the Nangarhar University delegation had a visit to some research centres and Faculties at ATU, as well as ATU's museum.
