ATU professors participate in a seminar held in the Iranian Academy of Arts

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Juri Lotman, the Soviet Structuralist and literary scholar, the Iranian Academy of Arts, in partnership with the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO, Linguistics Society of Iran, Tehran Semiotics Circle, Iranian Society for Comparative Literature and Arts, and Iranian Society for French Language and Literature, convened a Seminar on "Lotman's Ideas in the Sphere of Iranian Semiotics" in November 2022.
The seminar was attended by renowned scholars and researchers in the fields of semiotics and linguistics. In this event, Dr Farzaneh Farahzad, Full Professor of Translation Studies at Allameh Tabataba'i University, chaired the second panel, where Dr Hossein Sarafraz, Assistant Professor at ATU's Communication Science Department, Dr Azita Afrashi, Faculty Member at the Institute for Humanities and Cultural Studies, and Dr Ahmad Pakatchi, Islamic Republic of Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Delegate in UNESCO delivered speeches.
According to encyclopedia.com, Juri (or Yuri) Lotman, a scholar of Soviet literary semiotics and structuralism, established the Tartu-Moscow Semiotic School at Tartu University in Estonia and published "some eight hundred works on a high scholarly level. He is sometimes compared to Mikhail Bakhtin, another well-known Russian scholar."
