During his visit to ATU, Mr Zhu Zihao, the Cultural Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Tehran, met ATU's Vice-Presidency for Research and emphasised that he has been following up on the setting up of a Chinese Studies Library at ATU.

Zihao then added that the Chinese government's measure to budget and establish a library at ATU demonstrates the government's profound interest in developing academic and cultural ties with ATU. He hoped that the library would soon be set up after an invitation to tender and other relevant measures.

He also said that a Chinese university has recently offered a Chinese Language scholarship to ATU and that they are planning to organise a Chinese Script Calligraphy Competition for Chinese Language students in several Iranian universities on the occasion of the Chinese Language Day.

Dr Dehghani Firoozabadi then pointed to the Islamic Republic of Iran's policies to develop relations with different countries, especially China and added that one of ATU's priorities is to develop academic ties with Chinese universities.

Dr Ali Adami, ATU's Vice-President for Academics, then referred to the two countries' approaches to scientific development, saying that ATU could use the capacity and the existing bilateral cooperation to set up Iranian Studies chairs and teach the Persian Language in China. Setting up the Chinese Studies Library at ATU would also be a decisive step in providing the Iranian academic community with a non-western representation of the Chinese culture and civilisation.
