Professor Kathryn Hohlwein Addresses the English Literature Students
Directorate for International Academic Cooperation–
ATU Faculty of Persian Literature and Foreign Languages (PLFL) and the Academic/Science Association of the Department of English Language and Literature invited Kathryn Hohlwein, Professor Emerita of California State University, to deliver a lecture at PLFL Faculty. During her lecture on "The Importance and Relevance of Homer's Odyssey in Today’s World", she expanded on the structural and substantive differences between the two works of Homer, Iliad and Odyssey. Comparing these two characters and their effect on the lives and literature of the West to the two sides of a coin, she introduced Iliad as a symbol of the belligerent and harsh spirit of man and likened Odyssey to a peaceful and family-loving man. Hohlwein concluded the session by reciting some of her poems.
Kathryn Hohlwein has taught literature for more than 36 years at California State University. She is a full professor of English Literature, and her speciality is Greek epic poetry, especially Homer's works.
