INALCO Holds the “Iranology in France: Last Experiences, Future Prospects” Conference

On 2 March 2015, the National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations (Inalco) held the “Iranology in France: Last Experiences, Future Prospects” conference in Paris. In this conference, held with the presence of a number of Iranian professors and researchers and French Iranologists, issues related to Iran are discussed. The scientific and academic centres in France which are active in this field include the “Iranian and Indian World” Research Center, Center for National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), INALCO (National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations), Institute of Iranian Studies, Sorbonne Nouvelle, Higher Institute for Iranian History Studies, and other departments Persian language and literature is taught.

At this conference, more than 400 abstracts and 190 articles were sent, from which 80 abstracts and 45 articles were ed to be printed and published. The articles were presented around the following three axes:

  1. The main axis of the conference: analysis and criticism of the resume of French Iranologists active in various fields;
  2. The secondary axis: comparative studies in various fields using Persian and French sources;
  3. Iranian studies.

It is worth mentioning that Dr Marjan Farjah, head of the ATU Department of French Language, who had participated in and addressed this conference, met with professors of the Persian Department of the INALCO Institute and discussed a memorandum of understanding to be signed between ATU and INALCO.
