    Abstract
The aim of the present study was to develop and examine the psychometric properties of the War Anxiety Scale among university students in Tehran using a transdiagnostic approach. Given the lack of a comprehensive, culturally sensitive indigenous instrument for assessing this construct in the Iranian student population, as well as the content and cultural limitations of existing instruments (both domestic and international), the study was conducted using a sequential exploratory mixed-methods design. In the qualitative phase, based on interviews with ۱۶ students and interpretive phenomenological analysis, an initial set of ۲۰ items was developed, which was reduced to a ۱۶-item version following an assessment of content validity by ۸ experts and a pilot study with ۵۲ students. In the quantitative phase, the questionnaire was administered to a sample of ۵۳۵ students in Tehran, and following data screening, the final analysis was conducted on ۴۹۹ participants. Exploratory factor analysis conducted on half of the data revealed a three-factor structure (intolerance of uncertainty and future-oriented suspension, safety behaviors, and threat hypervigilance and security catastrophizing), explaining ۶۳.۵% of the total variance, which was confirmed in the second half of the data through confirmatory factor analysis (CFI=۰.۹۲۶, TLI=۰.۹۱۳, SRMR=۰.۰۵۹, RMSEA=۰. The overall reliability of the scale was satisfactory (Cronbach's alpha=۰.۹۳۷, McDonald's omega=۰. Evidence supporting the convergent validity of the scale was also obtained based on its correlations with the anxiety subscale of the DASS-۲۱ and the Impact of Event Scale–Revised (IES-R). Within the framework of item response theory, the multidimensional graded response model demonstrated a better fit than the unidimensional model. Item discrimination parameters ranged from ۱.۵۸ to ۳.۷۲, and all items demonstrated satisfactory discrimination; moreover, the response thresholds exhibited the expected ordering across all items. Taken together, these findings indicate that the ۱۶-item War Anxiety Scale demonstrates a stable factor structure, high internal consistency, and satisfactory preliminary evidence of validity in a sample of students in Tehran and can be used to assess war-related anxiety in student populatio   however, its generalizability to other populations requires further investigation.
