  Abstract Analysis of the representation of the role of women in Iranian TV series, The case study of Setayesh This thesis seeks to discover the discourse implications represented by social events, and to explain the indicators of discourse codes in the text of Satish television series. Therefore, a method had to be used that would reveal the aspects of these symbolic meanings. For this reason, using semiotics to represent this discourse is a desirable method. In other words, the theoretical framework of this research is based on Fisk's semiotics model, which was chosen because it has deep levels and is compatible with the analysis of television texts. One of the central themes of this research is the reproduction of the patriarchal system, disregarding the role of women, and in addition, the representation and confrontation of tradition and modernity. In discourse semiotics, the researcher moves from the level of micro-signs and examines the set of micro-signs under the macro-discourse and considering the context and social action. The present research showed that this series contrasts the patriarchal system with the matriarchal system and by paying narrative, cinematic and meaning-making, it denounces it and represents this system as a violent system, which in the end is a dark and extreme image of it. provides The masculinity represented in this series is a type of punitive masculinity in which violence, dominance and control are prioritized (negative meaning load) to the extent that the main character of the narrative uses the technique of contaminating the opponent's discourse (matriarchy) and repeating it in explicit layers and By implication, it represents a distorted image of the patriarchal system.
