    Abstract

    This research
aimed to investigate the attitudes of teachers and students in the seni
elementary school regarding the implementation of the art curriculum. To this
end, a qualitative survey method with an inductive approach was employed. The
study population comprised all second-grade elementary school teachers and
students in Qods City during the academic year ۱۴۰۳-۱۴۰۴. From this population,
۱۰ teachers and ۱۰ students were purposefully selected. The research instrument
was a semi-structured interview, and data were extracted using the thematic
    analysis method via MaxQDA software.

    The results
indicated that, based on the attitudes of both groups, diverse cognitive,
attitudinal, and skill-based objectives were achieved, with attitudinal
objectives being more prevalent. Regarding content, both groups paid attention
to occasion-based content, diversification of activities, and an integrated
approach to art. Teachers separately mentioned the utilization of subjective
resources and students’ previously learned arts. In students’ attitudes,
interest in the presented contents and disregard of certain artistic contents
were observed. In terms of method, both groups emphasized the use of simple and
low-cost educational tools and materials, and the application of both
traditional and modern teaching methods, with traditional methods being more
common. Furthermore, teachers pointed to the preparation and participation of
students, while students referred to diverse preferences regarding the
execution of art class. In evaluation, both groups emphasized the variety of
feedback, and qualitative and quantitative criteria, with qualitative criteria
being preferred. Teachers’ mentalities included positive mindsets, challenges
faced, and issues related to teachers, often indicating the weak position of
the art curriculum. Students’ mentalities also showed interest in art class and
teachers’ inattention to the implementation of the art curriculum. Teachers
also mentioned the school’s administrative structure, family involvement, and
negative family mentalities as other stakeholders in the art curriculum implementation.
Additionally, in the context of train-the-trainer courses, they discussed their
varied experiences and the shortcomings in teacher training. Finally, teachers’
suggestions included empowering and training teachers, enhancing the
teaching-learning process, improving curriculum content and educational
resources, and informing other stakeholders, with teacher empowerment and
training being their primary concern. Students, as future teachers, also made
suggestions such as imitated objectives, internalized and spontaneous content,
modeled and spontaneous teaching methods, and evaluation influenced by teacher
models, which indicated that most students modeled their teachers. A general
review of the results suggests that teacher training should be pursued, other
stakeholders such as parents and other school staff should be made aware of the
importance of art lessons, and the content of the art curriculum should be
    revised by education system officials.
