Russia and Turkiye as the two regional powers for Georgia, have been utilizing hard and soft power to gain their national interests in different fields such as economy, culture, politics, regional influence, etc. The following research document studies Tukey and Russia’s soft power in Georgia. It focuses on describing and comparing the aims, sources, tools, and execution of soft power by Russia and Turkiye in Georgia. The master thesis favors the Soft Power theory by American scientist Joseph Nye.
According to the hypothesis, it was assumed that the two rivals in the region; Russia and Turkiye; besides utilizing hard power to achieve their interests in the South Caucuses, especially in Georgia, are seeking their goals in the field of politics, security, economy, society, regional influence, etc., [SM۱] through applying the tools of soft power by which they can guarantee the maximum gains with minimum costs. The study revealed that during the last decade, the two countries followed their interest mostly through applying soft power, rather than hard power. By analyzing the elements of the soft power raised by Nye, the paper comprehensibly explained the fields in which Russia and Turkiye act, and then it compared the tools and results.
Lastly, it is concluded that Turkiye is more successful in obtaining its national interests than Russia in Georgia, although in some elements Russia still keeps its influence in the country such as in economic fields.
