Directorate for International Academic Cooperation —

A Memorandum of Understanding on academic cooperation was signed between Allameh Tabataba'i University (ATU) and Sofia University, Bulgaria, on 23 January 2017.

In the session held in ATU Vice-President for Research's Office, Dr Hamidreza Oloumiyazdi, ATU Vice-President for Research, and Dr Nematollah Iranzadeh, ATU academic member hosted officials from Sofia University. In the beginning of the meeting, Dr Oloumiyazdi pointed to the importance given in ATU to such areas as student and staff exchange, holding joint conferences, seminars, and scientific sessions, and conducting joint research projects, and clarified, "One of the most important things on which ATU is always insisting is that the MoUs signed will be impersonalised and implemented, as most of the MoUs in ATU have been and are already being implemented".

He then pointed to ATU's Centre for Teaching Persian to Non-Persian Speakers, capable of admitting Bulgarian students interested in learning Persian, and said "I hope this can help us to increase our academic relations. We are ready to host Bulgarian students who are interested in learning Persian language, culture and literature." Oloumiyazdi then appreciated the Bulgarian translation of the Shahnameh (also known as The Persian Book of Kings) by one of Sofia University faculty members, saying "This invaluable volume has a special position in the Iranian culture; it has been translated in more than 28 world languages, and it is our happiness to hear that Bulgarian is one of those languages."

In the end of the session, the Bulgarian delegation invited ATU to take active part in and contribute to the international conference on "Iranology" that is going to be held in Sofia University.
